What is Illuminate Downtown Ashland?

Founded in 2017 by studio director Chrissy Reynolds, Illuminate Downtown Ashland is a community event that aims to shine a light on the important role art plays within a community. Annemarie's Dance Centre alongside the town of Ashland and Arts! Ashland Alliance partner local art and artists with community spaces both public and private. 

What Does 2023 Look like?

Live audiences are welcome in the several locations around downtown to view the art, hear the music and experience the dancing. Annemarie's Dance Centre, The Corner Spot, Ashland Historical Society, Blush Bouquet, Needham Bank and Ashland Reiki & Wellness will host live performances and art works for the community to enjoy. Ashland High School Chorus, Neayong Cho, The Drum Nomads, , International Trio, The Cardinal Joe Stillitano & The Movement Project Performance Company will occupy the spaces for a night of free performance and luminaries.

Don't forget to collect stamps as you shop! Every unique shop you make a purchase from earns you a stamp. Once you've gathered five or more stamps, you can enter to win our Holiday Stroll Raffle. FallFest is a signature event to wrap up the season at the #bestspotintown. All are welcome to enjoy the fall festivities!! Games, food, beverages and music! Enjoy the beauty of Autumn in New England. Join us this year on Saturday, October 14th from 3 - 6 pm for FallFest!

Ashland-Hopkinton Porchfest is a grassroots community music festival. Musicians play on front porches, and attendees enjoy lots of free music and local color as they walk and bike around the neighborhoods. It’s a great opportunity for local musicians to share their talents with their neighbors, and for residents to discover their neighborhoods anew!

We have multiple bands scheduled right here in the center of town. At Town Hall, we have the Wormtown Mugwumps at 2:00 PM, followed by the Country Line String Band at 3:00 PM. At The Corner Spot, Bob Greenman will perform at 3:45 PM, and we'll wrap up Porchfest with a finale featuring the Road Dawgs at 5:30 PM!

Ashland Girl Scout Fest and Bridging Ceremony

Whether you're already a Girl Scout, thinking about becoming a Girl Scout, or just need something for the kids to do, this event is for you! There will be food, games, STEAM activities, and opportunities to support young entrepreneurs. Since no Girl Scout event is complete without cookies, there will be samples available as well! The afternoon will end with a bridging ceremony, where eligible Girl Scouts will "bridge" from one level to the next.

Celebrate the end of summer with MOVIE NIGHT! The film begins at dusk, but don’t miss out on the fun beforehand! Before the movie, enjoy activities, music and food!

Tot Spot is back thanks to the Ashland Mom’s Club! They bring a variety of fun all summer long to kids and parents! Check out all their events, you won’t want to miss any of them! They are at the #bestspotintown every Thursday morning, 10-11am. Restrooms are available on site. Free for all to attend!

In preparing for going back to school look to reduce the amount of new clothing and supplies you buy. According to a survey conducted by The Street, on average households spend over $500 preparing kids to go back to school. In addition to that the average American citizen throws away 70 pounds of textiles annually. To reduce this number look to reuse and swap with other Ashland residents. Bring clothing, shoes, outerwear, lightly used school supplies, and sports equipment. Anything that is not swapped will be donated to Cradles to Crayons to be donated to families in need. School-age clothing is encouraged but all are welcome to attend and swap.

Annmarie's Dance Centre: Join a fun and creative movement class where you float like a fairy and stomp like an elephant! Participants will skip, gallop and leap while exploring the many fun ways we can move our bodies. Enrollment starts at age 3.

Teddy Bear Emergency with the Fire Department

Ashland Public Library's Library Kids Program is hosting another Teddy Bear Emergency with the Fire Department. The Ashland EMTs will be on hand to give your stuffie first aid. See an ambulance up close, and get a firefighter hat!

Lou Lou's Music Together: Playful, rich and engaging, Music Together mixed-age classes help little ones (and their grown-ups!) discover their inner music-makers, while naturally supporting social, emotional, language and cognitive development. During each music class, the Music Together teacher will lead music activities for the whole family with award-winning songs.

New to Ashland Moms or interested in joining the group? Come by to learn more about everything our organization can offer you, your family, and the community! There will be coffee for the adults, water play for the kids, and donuts for everyone.

Shen's Gymnastics: Shen’s Gymnastics Academy of Holliston will take its Superkids Gymnastics class to the Corner Spot in Ashland. This will be a 45 minute, instructor-led gymnastics activity set up with colorfulmats in an obstacle-course fashion. After a group warmup, kids will follow the coach through the various mats and learn some basicgymnastics along the way: forward rolls, donkey kicks, tuck jumps and even cartwheels. Unlike our normal Superkids gymnasticsclass, they will also include some games, so kids will have plenty of opportunities to get some exercise,have fun, and learn some gymnastics! Classes start at age 18 months.

YMCA Project ABC: Join the MetroWest YMCA and Project ABC for a fun and engaging playgroup aimed toward children 0-8. Project ABC is funded by the Department of Early Education and Care and is managed by the Y. Programs include manipulative, sensory, and gross motor play and are free to residents of Ashland, Hopkinton, Natick and Holliston.
